Retention & Data Support Manager

 

Position Overview

This position works closely with College Advising and Student Services (CASS) leadership and the CASS communications and data support advisor to identify trends, determine student sub-populations for targeted intervention initiatives, and design related programming to support initiatives intended to improve retention and graduation.

Coordinates student success-related programming specific to the monitoring of student progression.
Acts as resource for training, and provides other assistance to CASS staff as needed related to advising technology and performing interventions.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytic background, experience working directly with undergraduate students, knowledge of predictive analytic systems and student development and advising theories, enjoy multi-tasking and bring a positive, collaborative attitude to the office.

 

 

Job Duties

50% - Retention and graduation initiatives and advising interventions
Review institutional data to create segments of CASS assigned students according to potential risk factors.  Create sub-populations of CASS assigned students who are moderate risk.  Document and track interventions for the segments of CASS assigned students.
Monitor student progression and enrollment.  Provide reports, share ideas for areas of possible additional targeted focus.  Review student performance trends, university policies, and programs that impact student retention for students in the College


20% - Communications
Work with communications and data support advisor and leadership team to create, deploy and assess communications designed to affect student retention and graduation in the College.

15% Leadership team support
Analyze institutional data and trends, particularly with moderate risk students and provide to leadership team to make strategic decisions.
Develop reporting for leadership team related to advising outcomes and risk assessment.
Stay informed of the changing technology, especially as it relates to advising, and bring to leadership team.
Identify barriers for students and bring to leadership team to make strategic decisions. 

15% - CASS team support
Extract, manipulate, and collate data used by retention team to determine academic standing.
Provide desk-side coaching, training, and other assistance to CASS staff as needed related to advising technology and performing interventions.
Represent CASS in relevant meetings as needed or assigned by the Director. 

 

 

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience
  2. One year of experience working directly with students in higher education
  3. Experience working with Excel, Access or similar database software
  4. Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by application materials
  5. High level of attention to detail as evidenced by experience and application materials

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working with institutional data and/or predictive analytics
  2. Experience providing academic advising to undergraduate students in a formal capacity
  3. Demonstrated understanding of student development theories and developmental advising practices 
  4. Master’s degree in higher education
  5. Working knowledge of academic advising at the University of Kansas
