Assistant Researcher POSITION
Stepping Up Technology I-Connect Grant
The Juniper Gardens Children’s Project and the I-Connect Development Project is seeking to hire 1 full-time Assistant Researcher to assist in a project, implementing an intervention program addressing adolescent academic skill and behavioral adjustment. Approximately 50 high-school students with risk for dropping out of school will participate in intervention and contribute to the development of the program. The intervention will consist of mentoring and monitoring of academic and social outcomes and using technology (tablets, mobile devices) to involve students in self-monitoring of these outcomes. School personnel will be taught to implement the interventions with support by project staff. Students will be recruited with parental consent from districts in the metropolitan Kansas City area (Kansas and Missouri schools), and up to a 60-mile radius. The Assistant Researcher will assist with development efforts including determining specifications, training and assessments. Reliable transportation and the ability to be flexible in scheduling around school schedules are required. Reimbursement for travel expenses are available. This position requires strong organizational skills and communication skills, and management skills as evidenced in work experience. Please note that all offers of employment are contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the background check. Continuation is dependent on yearly funding and satisfactory annual evaluation.
The position is located in Kansas City, Kansas in the Children’s Campus of Kansas City Building, 444 Minnesota Ave, Suite 300, Kansas City KS 66101.
RESPONSIBILITIES will involve working with project staff and school district staff in the following areas:
- 40% Provide ongoing monitoring, observation and data collection of teachers and students who are participating in the intervention development. Including coordinating schedule with a Project Coordinator and teachers and dependably showing up on time and prepared for observations. Following observations and assessments appropriately handle and care for confidential information.
- 20% Conduct training for school staff on mentoring and setting up the self-monitoring intervention with students, and meet weekly with the staff for follow-up and implementation assistance.
- 20% Perform data entry and materials preparation. Data entry will occur at the office and will be entered into ACCESS and EXCEL.
- 20% Assist with reports, manuscripts, presentations and other dissemination activities. Including
literature reviews, graph preparation, and reference list preparation in APA style.
REQUIREMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in applied behavioral sciences, special education, psychology, social work or related fields
- 6 month’s minimum experiences with implementing behavioral interventions in high schools or working with adolescents in school or community settings
- Strong organizational skills as evidenced by work history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with implementing self-monitoring or self-management interventions
- Experience with dissemination through social media
- Experience with manuscript preparation
- Experience creating or editing websites
START DATE: August 6, 2018, 2018 or when position is filled
SALARY: $20.00—$23.00 hourly, $41,600—$47,840 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
FTE: 100%
