Position Overview
Facilities Services supports KU's mission of learning, scholarship, and creative endeavor by operating and maintaining the University's physical plant and grounds. The incumbent is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance and emergency repair tasks to University buildings plumbing and steam systems, with employee being involved in a regular program of inspection and repair using more than one skilled trade.

Job Description
50% - Follows an established inspection routine in an assigned group of buildings for needed maintenance and repairs to various plumbing steam and building equipment. Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures, piping, valves, and traps. Diagnoses leaks, stoppages, inadequate supply or faulty operation of steam, water, gas, and air systems, cleans and repairs defective components. Records and communicates work order information digitally.
40% - Responds to emergency calls involving loss of utilities or equipment failure, helps repair leaks in steam, condensate, water, or air lines. Repairs are performed as time and expertise permits. May assist other shop staff with more complex repairs.
5% - Other Related Work as Assigned: Maintains an adequate supply of tools, parts, and supplies for jobs. Responds to after-hours emergency calls as needed. Assists with other maintenance areas and in other work areas as assigned. Assists with snow removal and surface treatment.
5% - Performs other related work as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Reach, grasp, hold, lift and place moderately heavy loads and heavy loads occasionally (50 lbs) with or without accommodation.
- Perform work above normal heights, in confined spaces and extreme temperatures (hot and cold) inside and outdoors.
- Operate work issued vehicles for transporting staff and materials
- Work occasional planned and unplanned overtime as needed including responding to after-hours emergencies as needed.
- Report to work during declared periods of inclement weather.
- Must have a valid driver’s license by the time of hire and maintain that license throughout employment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Two (2) years of experience in a skilled crafts area. Associate degree or vocational school certification may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Professional commercial plumbing/Steam experience.
- Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, equipment, and materials associated with a variety of skilled crafts and building trades.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of skilled crafts and building trades.
- Experience working in a university, college or multi-building campus environment.
