Broad Scope and Function |
The position performs general functions and support for the Water Resources Group in the Department of Geology including (but not limited to): coordination of meetings and training, management of the project budget, delivery of databases and reports to the project sponsor, quality control on project deliverables, maintenance of instrumentation for research, and preparation and filing of hiring and separation paperwork for student researchers. |
Reporting Relationship |
This position reports directly to and receives general direction from the Principal Investigator. The position provides work direction to student assistants. |
Conditions of Employment |
This position is a full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay), benefited position, with a defined contribution retirement plan through TIAA. (The position is not covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System). Continued employment in this position is dependent upon funding and the mutual consent of University Enterprises and the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee, can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Program continuation is contingent upon funding. |

Minimum Qualifications |
1. Bachelors degree in Geology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience. 2. Demonstrated experience in scientific project workflow from conception to completion. 3. Demonstrated experience coordinating scientific projects. 4. Demonstrated knowledge of the California Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) oil and gas well descriptions and geophysical logs. 5. Demonstrated experience in preparation of manuscripts and abstracts. 6. Knowledge of instrumentation use and safety procedures of analytical instruments such as cathodoluminescence or petrographic microscopes. 7. Demonstrated experience with project accounting, purchasing, and reimbursements. 8. Demonstrated experience with cloud-based databases. 9. Demonstrated ability to prioritize many different tasks, determine the relative importance of each task, complete projects accordingly, and work with deadlines and time pressure. 10. Excellent command of the English language including grammar, spelling, and punctuation and ability to clearly communicate in writing. 11. Must pass a background check, which may include fingerprinting. Must continue to meet the established standards. |
Preferred Qualifications |
1. Masters degree in Geology or related field. 2. Record of production of scientific work as evidenced by abstracts or publications. |

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; lift or move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds; use of office equipment including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, scanners, and fax machines. |

1. Coordinates activities for the Geology Well Log project to ensure compliance with grant requirements and to ensure efficient operation as to resources, timelines, and deliverables. Gathers information and prepares status reports and submits to project sponsor. Prepares periodic reports for management regarding the status of project deliverables and budget allocations. Assures prompt and accurate delivery of databases and reports to project sponsor by coordinating project resources. |

2. Coordinates and arranges content with faculty and students for bi-weekly project research meetings and weekly graduate student meetings. |

3. Works with project partners (USGS, California State Water Resources Control Board, CSU Bakersfield) to develop new work plans and training strategies as project goals evolve. |

4. Works with the Principal Investigator to compile annual and quarterly progress reports. Writes or edits portions of reports. Maintains pertinent documentation required for adherence to grant requirements. |

9. Processes requests for purchase orders and check payments related to the Geology Well Log project; researches items for proper vendors and prices; follows-up on outstanding purchase orders, invoices, and provides backup to the Principal Investigator. |

10. Assists faculty with preparation of grant proposals and manuscripts for publication including gathering and summarizing relevant data, writing brief summaries or overviews of project goals, and proof-reading or editing the work of other project members. |

12. Works with the Principal Investigator to compile year-end financial summaries, quarterly financial reports, and budget estimates for grant proposals. |

13. Serves as the primary liaison with project partners, Sacramento State, and University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) staff as needed on matters related to project development and implementation. |

14. Serves as primary liaison with UEI’s Human Resources department including but not limited to development of new positions, recruitment for full and part-time positions, hiring paperwork, separation forms, and employee paperwork. |

15. Works with UEI’s Sponsored Programs Administration staff on a variety of fiscal administration and monitoring activities, including ensuring appropriate faculty reimbursement, and reallocating budgets when necessary. |

16. Processes travel requests and advances related to the Geology Well Log project. Makes travel arrangements for meetings, conferences, and other travel; gathers supporting documentation for travel claims; completes travel claims, obtains appropriate signatures, and forwards documents to appropriate departments for processing. |
