The Director of Student Access and Disability Services is responsible for providing leadership and administration for student support and disability services. The Director coordinates the provision of services and accommodations as defined by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (including but not limited to providing readers, note-takers, tutors, interpreters, etc.) to insure access to programs, services and activities for qualifying students. The Director is expected to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to create and support equitable, inclusive and sustainable learning environments.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct intake interviews, advise and orient students on accessing appropriate support services.

- Determine eligibility for services and facilitate reasonable accommodations for students with learning disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, physical disabilities, temporary injuries and other types of disabilities as needed.

- Maintain case files and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA and university policy.

- Support students in resolving disability related issues that may be a barrier to academic success; refer students to appropriate campus and community resources.

- Provide specialized oversight of the accommodations, services and training needed to support students.

- Maintain regular contact with the departments, divisions, and appropriate personnel and faculty to ensure quality services for individuals with disabilities.

- Develop and implement an assessment plan to measure programs and outcomes on student learning, to ensure effectiveness of accommodation efforts and to improve student learning.

- Serve as a resource to the university regarding the ADA and disability-related issues; creating and providing outreach and training for faculty, staff, and students.

- Collaborate with University Counsel to ensure the University is in compliance with all legislation, court decisions, office of Civil Rights rulings, etc. regarding disability issues.

- Assist the University in the identification, acquisition, and effective use of available technology to provide services for students with disabilities.

- Establish and maintain clear guidelines for students qualifying for emotional support animals and service animals in accordance with state and federal law.

- Hire, train and supervise student workers and graduate assistants as needed and as funding permits.

- Attend appropriate campus, community, state and national meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions relating to disability issues as available and as funding permits.

- Maintain active membership in local, state, and national organizations representing disability issues.

- Develop and maintain program budget and expenditures, seek grants and external funding that promote the program.

- Compile data and assist in the interpretation and analysis for program planning, evaluation, and reporting purposes.

- Encourage the admission and retention of students with disabilities.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in the area of Education, Psychology, Social Work or related clinical area.

- 2-4 years of experience working in higher education or working with young adults with physical, social, and emotional development needs.

- Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 relative to university students/settings.

- Demonstrated commitment to the development and welfare of students.

- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

- History of ethical and professional conduct.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with adaptive software and assistive technology.

- Knowledge of modern practices and methods related to accommodations and students with disabilities.
