The Assistant Director for Union and Involvement (U&I) Services - Involvement and Engagement position is designed to create a sense of community and affinity to the University by coordinating/overseeing involvement and engagement initiatives for the department and assisting with critical aspects of facility needs. It is expected this role will have a shared responsibility with other Union and Involvement Services staff members for the efficient, safe, and effective functioning of all student events and Union needs. This position also has primary responsibility for mentoring and advising student leaders affiliated with the Student Activities Board and Homecoming Committee in addition to U&I staff. HIGHLIGHTED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision/Advising:
- Assist with the recruitment, interview, hiring, training, and supervision of student employees. Direct oversight
for select roles/positions: Organizational Development Staff, Leadership Specialist, etc.; - Serve as a primary advisor of Student Activities Board (SAB) - assist with any relevant training, selection, programming, and on-going initiatives; Provide direct oversight/advisement to the Homecoming Coordinator and Committee;
- Support the Graduate Assistant for U&I Services in their advisement of the Funds Allotment Council.
- Serve as Advisor to FAC if the position is unfilled.
- Involvement/Programming/Engagement:
- Serve as the Departmental contact for all involvement and engagement activities;
- Build partnerships and collaborations across campus to provide campus-wide programs and events designed to build community, promote leadership, foster engagement and retention;
- Provide oversight and ensure compliance and active development of approximately 240 student organizations;
- Oversee the coordination of the new student organization recognition process;
- Direct student coordinators in the planning, development, and execution of relevant student organization programming, which includes but is not limited to Involvement Fairs, Leadership Recognition, etc.
External Partnerships: - Conduct informational sessions to incoming students during New Student Orientation and Truman Week;
- Represent the Department on the Truman Week and Family Day Committees, and any other appropriate
committees; - Assist with New Student Move-In;
Assistant to the Director: - In absence of Director, serve as a point person for the Department;
- Assist with annual budget planning, development, and priority setting;
- Serve as the primary backup for any issues related to Fraternity & Sorority Life;
- Assist with facility issues/concerns;
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required qualifications include: - Bachelor's degree earned by June 30, 2020;
- Involvement and/or leadership experience with a campus programming board or other student organization is required. Strong leadership, supervision, and interpersonal skills, with a proven record of achieving results in the supervision of and collaboration with others; building successful teams; and mentoring professionals and students;
- Experience with all aspects of programming and event management such as developing outcomes, goal setting, project planning, implementation/logistics, evaluation, and reporting;
- Experience with risk mitigation;
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills to represent and support departmental
initiatives across campus and with community partners; - A demonstrated commitment to participating in building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus
community; - Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks;
- Preferred qualifications include:
- One year of professional work experience;
- A liberal arts background;
- Experience working with budgets and contracts;
- Two or more years of experience with programming boards in either an advisory or leadership capacity.
- Experience in NACA and/or ACUI or other relevant professional associations.
