Job Duties: Performs high complexity testing on critically ill patients from TMCs departments, including emergency, surgical and medical intensive care units, high risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care unit, and other units as needed. Collects and studies specimens such as urine, blood, and spinal fluids, to determine presence of normal or abnormal components; may collect blood specimens directly from patient; enter data from analysis of medical tests/clinical results into system; processes add-on specimens, takes appropriate action for compromised specimens; Analyze samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction; Prepares specimens for testing; routes specimens to appropriate reference laboratories for all testing not performed on site; Performs various tests on specimens using analytical reagents, kits, and instrumentation; follows established procedures, including compliance with infection control, OSHA, and Universal Precautions policies; Calculates and tabulates test results; verifies and calls critical results in accordance with department procedures; analyzes laboratory findings to check accuracy of results; Performs maintenance procedures, instrument checks, calibrations, validations, linearity studies under direction of the department supervisor; Maintains turn-around-time logs, pending test reports, shift transition logs, and other logs deemed necessary by lab leadership in a high volume, fast-paced environment level 1 trauma center; Works with pathology departments, pathologists, resident pathologists as needed; assists in training clinical laboratory scientist and new laboratory employees; Consults and works collaboratively with clinical physicians. Minimum Educational Requirement: Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent in clinical laboratory/medical technology science or related field.
