Purpose Statement
The job of Tech 1 is done for the purpose of installing, troubleshooting and maintaining computer hardware and peripheral equipment in buildings; diagnosing and repairing basic hardware and network failures; providing technical support to site administrators, teachers and students; and resolving school site technology issues.
This job reports to Assistant Director of Technology.
Essential Functions
Assists with a variety of technology-related functions in the technology department and at school sites
(e.g. aides teachers and students with class tasks, imaging of Windows machines, summer school technical needs, scheduling of computer labs, entering service and purchase requests, and other building and district level projects, etc.) for the purpose of providing additional technology resources across the district to achieve student achievement goals.
Attends school site and departmental meetings for the purpose of providing and/or gathering information relating to job functions.
Coordinates repair work schedules with school and district office personnel for the purpose of minimizing disruption of services and/or inconvenience.
Installs computer hardware, peripherals, and application software (e.g. adjusting, repairing, replacing parts, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining overall site operations.
Instructs school site staff on a variety of software applications and hardware operations (e.g. email, word processing, spread sheet applications, etc.) for the purpose of providing ongoing support and maximizing the capabilities of assigned staff.
Maintains hardware inventory for the purpose of maintaining necessary equipment and ensuring availability of items as needed.
Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. preventive maintenance, purchases, inspections, repair logs, inventory database, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and/or providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail.
Prepares written materials (e.g. status reports, instructions, user guides, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
Removes life-cycle equipment for the purpose of providing constant turn-over of out-of-date equipment and replacing with new technology.
Repairs minor problems with laptops and desktop computers, peripherals, and laser and inkjet printers for the purpose of maintaining equipment in a safe and functional operating condition.
Responds to a variety of questions from site staff, parents and students for the purpose of providing information, guidance or referral.
Supervises computer lab facilities for the purpose of providing building technology resources supporting the educational objectives.
Supports building techs for the purpose of providing direction and final resolution of technical problems.
Transports parts/equipment between Technology Department and buildings for the purpose of providing the timely delivery and availability of technology resources.
