ATTORNEY
The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) is seeking an Attorney for its Staff Counsel Department
in Jefferson City.
Duties include: litigation of public utility cases (in the fields of telecommunications, electric, natural gas,
water and sewer) before the PSC on behalf of Commission Staff. Commission Staff is comprised of
finance and industry-specific professionals. Cases involve matters such as utility rates, utility operation
financing, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory law enforcement of Commission rules and laws. In
addition to litigation, duties include providing legal advice and guidance to Staff members, researching
up-and-coming growth in areas such as energy efficiency and developing technology, and shaping future
policy.
QUALIFICATIONS: Legal Counsel (entry-level) - A juris doctorate degree and admission to practice
law in Missouri or admission elsewhere and eligibility for admission to practice law in Missouri is required.
(December graduates are welcome to apply.) Associate Counsel (intermediate-level) – Two (2)
years’ experience as a Legal Counsel at the PSC or two years’ experience in one or more fields of law
directly related to the field of public utility regulation or a closely related field. Senior Counsel (seniorlevel) – Two (2) years’ experience as an Associate Counsel at the PSC with two years of responsible
relevant legal experience in one or more fields of law directly related to the field of public utility regulation
or a closely related field or four years’ experience in general litigation, administrative law, and/or
government regulation of private enterprise preferred. Personal computer experience required, with
knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred.
Annual salary for Legal Counsel is - $61,384; Associate Counsel is - $66,485; and Senior Counsel is
$70,268 (January 1, 2022 there will be an approximate 2% salary increase which will increase the salary
for - Legal Counsel - $62,611; Associate Counsel - $67,815; and Senior Counsel - $71,674). To be
