County Planning & Zoning Director

Miami County Kansas Government, Paola KS

 

Miami County Kansas is now taking applications for the County Planning & Zoning Director position. Paola Kansas is the county seat and is located less than an hour’s drive from downtown Kansas City. 

 

The Director of Planning & Zoning is responsible for administration of the Planning & Zoning Department and supervision of assigned employees. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to subdivision, zoning, and land use issues. Performs work in support of department/programs.  Assignments vary and require knowledge of specific departmental procedures and practices of varying complexity and interpretation.  

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, or related field preferred, a master’s degree in urban planning, public administration, or a related field desirable.

 

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (ACIP), Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) or ability to acquire within first year of employment preferred.

 

  • Three to five year’s supervisory experience. Five to ten year’s progressively responsible planning experience

 

Knowledge:

  • Considerable knowledge of the theory, principles and techniques of the planning profession and development process.

 

  • Considerable knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and codes pertaining to a wide variety of planning topics.

 

  • Considerable knowledge of principles of personnel management, including supervision, training, and performance evaluation.

 

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of research and analysis.

 

Salary up to $105,456 DOQ
