Position Overview
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
This is a professional position involving the practice of medical technology at the Watkins Health Services (SHS) health center Laboratory. It is a full time permanent position which includes benefits. Duties are performed in accordance with (1) established professional standards of medical technology practice and ethics, (2) WHS administrative policies and procedures, and (3) responsibilities assigned by the Chief Medical Technologist. Within this framework, the duties are carried out with latitude for independent professional judgment and action.
The incumbent in this position will see, hear and possibly have access to confidential information that must be handled in accordance with all relevant state and federal laws and University policies and procedures regarding its use and disclosure. This position is also authorized to review, create and process patient information and/or data in accordance with established procedures in the performance of job duties.
WHS utilizes computer technology in all aspects of its operations, including an electronic health record system. The incumbent must become familiar with and be able to use the appropriate computer hardware and software programs associated with this position.
The incumbent must become familiar with and adhere to the Watkins Health Services Customer Service Plan to ensure appropriate interaction and positive outcomes with both internal and external customers.

Job Description
Produces analytically accurate, timely, cost efficient test results that aides clinicians in the treatment of patients and patients in the pursuit of health. Interpret, records, and report test results. Follows microbiology, chemistry, and urinalysis, immunology, and hematology procedures. Performs phlebotomy following all safety protocols. Maintains and troubleshoots problems with analyzers, information system, and other equipment.
65% - Performs analyses on clinical specimens as requested by clinicians following hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and immunology procedure manuals. Records and reports results.
10% - Assists in all departments of the laboratory and performs miscellaneous duties necessary for laboratory and Watkins Health Services operations.
7% - Performs phlebotomy following all safety protocols.
7 % - Performs specified quality control and proficiency testing in order to maintain best laboratory practice and laboratory certification.
8% - Maintains and troubleshoots problems for analyzers, Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other equipment.
3% - Maintains professional registrations and stays current in the laboratory field through continuing education.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Clinical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology; or bachelor's in a related field and completion of an approved Medical Technologist program.
- American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification or equivalent registry.
- CPR certification current or within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a college health environment.
- Experience working with people of varying backgrounds and cultures.
- Phlebotomy experience.
- Familiarity with microbiology procedures, chemistry, and hematology analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.
