Job Description
|
- 40% - Produce or oversee production of all print and web-based publications of the University of Kansas Transportation Center (KUTC) to support transportation technology transfer activities. Media may include online content, newsletters, fact sheets, handbooks, brochures, resource directories, annual reports, presentation materials, posters, videos, etc. Production may include, but is not limited to, feature and technical writing, researching articles, soliciting materials, editing materials, graphics development, design, layout, maintaining online communications and social media, overseeing video production, and coordinating with printers.
- 20% - Supervise and manage efforts of contributing writers (students, staff, and professionals in the field) in article research, technical and feature writing, and general assistance with communications.
- 20% - Represent the KUTC with key transportation organizations that are stakeholders in the technology transfer products and services of the KUTC. Remain current in the technology transfer issues of constituents to whom KUTC communications and products are directed.
- 10% - Oversee the development and maintenance of a consistent look for KUTC program printed pieces and web content that supports flexibility of use and cost-effectiveness.
- 5% - Work in a team to further the missions of the KUTC and University of Kansas.
- 5% - Remain current in communications and publishing technology to provide for the KUTC the best possible products for available resources.

Required Qualifications
|
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, English, marketing, communications, or relevant field plus a minimum of one year related professional experience.
- Experience in writing and editing for technical publications, periodicals, or for the web.
- Experience communicating to large groups and/or making public presentations.
- Work experience that required establishing priorities in a complex technical environment with competing responsibilities.
- Proven record of meeting deadlines as evidenced in application materials.
- Experience with print and electronic layouts and working with printers.
- Experience promoting an organization using social media.

Preferred Qualifications
|
- Master’s degree in English, journalism, or related field.
- Minimum of five years’ experience working in journalism, communications, technical writing, marketing, or closely related field.
- Supervisory experience.
- Previous experience with successful public education and outreach activities.
- Experience working with state or local transportation, public works, or transit agencies.
- Experience managing publication production.
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
