The Institute for Policy & Social Research (IPSR) is a designated research center for the social sciences, supporting social science researchers. IPSR supports multiple research centers, their directors, and a network of more than 100 affiliates, and staff. The Education Program Specialist provides support to project team(s) developing educational events related to sponsored projects and the work of IPSR Center Directors, affiliates and staff. The Program Specialist’s primary responsibilities are to assist team(s) with implementation of sponsored project supported educational programs. This includes organization of workshops, workgroup meetings, conferences, special events, and other activities, as well as monitoring budgets, administrative procedures and reporting. This position will primarily support the grant-funded Haskell Environmental Research Studies (HERS) Institute Summer Research Program, the Facilitating Indigenous Research, Science and Technology (FIRST) projects, and the Center for Indigenous Research, Science, and Technology (C-FIRST), with the possibility of additional projects to-be-determined. |

Education Program Support Assist project team(s) with educational program implementation. Under direction, organizes the logistical arrangements for educational programs, workshops, conferences and other educational events that are supported by sponsored project funds. Assists with drafting materials for presentations and publications. Prepares program content to engage students, visitors, and community members in the educational program developed by program directors. Manages all logistical needs for workshops, workgroup meetings, conferences, special events and educational programs. Initiates and tracks completion of sponsored project expenditures for sponsored project teams; considers compliance and allowability under University rules as well as federal guidance. Communicates compliance and allowability requirements to program staff. Initiates orders for materials for researchers and staff. Coordinates travel. Advises on travel policies according to funding agency and institutional guidelines. Initiates transactions (purchases, travel, reimbursement) on behalf of IPSR programs and staff and works with the SSC staff as needed to complete transactions. Monitors project budgets, administrative procedures and assists with reporting. 80% - Program Support for HERS – The Education Program Specialist serves as the primary logistical manager for the Haskell Environmental Research Studies (HERS) Institute Summer Research Program. The HERS program is aimed at preparing tribal college students for graduate study in STEM fields. Under the direction of the project PI, the Education Program Specialist facilitates all program activities involving student interns, including but not limited to travel arrangements, securing research and program sites, speakers, presentations, payment and reimbursements, and other tasks that arise over the course of the project. Performs other duties as assigned. 10% - Support for FIRST – The Education Program Specialist serves as the primary logistical manager for the Research Coordination Network: Facilitating Indigenous Research, Science and Technology (FIRST). FIRST represents an interdisciplinary network of Native scholars all working at the intersection of Indigenous and Western scientific traditions to explore how Indigenous communities are utilizing both traditions to meet their research needs. Under the direction of the project PI, the Education Program Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for partnering institutions and Steering Committee members. The Education Program Specialist assists the PI with organizing network meetings and trainings, communicating with partner institutions, preparing reports, communication with the funding agency, and tracking time lines and completion of project objectives. Monitors project spending. Updates project website. Performs other duties as assigned. 10% - Outreach & Other Duties: Represents IPSR and C-FIRST to social science faculty, researchers, and other collaborators across campus. Assists with the design and planning of workshops, events, or other initiatives that support IPSR and C-FIRST’s mission at KU. Performs other duties as assigned. |
