Residential Mortgage Loan Jumbo Underwriter

As a Residential Mortgage Loan Jumbo Underwriter you will review and underwrite Jumbo loan applications in accordance with guidelines and compliance standards to support a very high risk and complex segment of mortgage underwriting. Many of these loans will require in depth individual and corporate tax return analysis for self-employed applicants and/or executives with layered ownership interests in multiple companies and or entities. Asset review is oftentimes complex due to higher net worth borrowers with multiple sources and percentages of liquidity that must be utilized for qualifying purposes using different guideline parameters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Analyzes credit, income, tax returns, assets and appraisals; determine the borrower’s credit worthiness and ability to repay the loan as agreed for the terms requested
- Mitigates bank risk by conducting a thorough and prudent review of each loan file; dispositions loans within bank issued underwriting authority limits
- Seeks management approval when loan limit exceeds the underwriter’s authority
- Clear all conditions of the loan and prepare files for the closing department
- Delivers full disposition of loans within 48-72 hours of receiving the loan files into underwriting; clears conditions of loans in less than 24 hours
- Identify and report any suspected fraudulent activity occurring with any stakeholder and escalate issues to the appropriate management when necessary
- Keeps abreast of all company policies and procedures as well as federal and state regulatory changes by participating in in-house training events
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- A minimum of four plus years of manual underwriting experience
TECHNICAL SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills
- Thorough understanding of credit and an ability to review complex financial documents
- Ability to assess an individual’s creditworthiness while adhering to all regulatory and compliance requirements
- Ability to meet production and quality standards
- Ability to effectively multi-task, work well in a fast-paced working environment and meet critical deadlines
- Basic accounting and good mathematical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office product suite
- Team player with a strong commitment to customer service
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to deliver complex information clearly and concisely
