Microbiologist/Director of Laboratory Operations (Drexel, MO)

InnovaPrep LLC is seeking a motivated scientist to serve as Director of Laboratory Operations. The Laboratory performs research and development and quality assurance testing related to InnovaPrep’s current and future products for microbiology sample collection, concentration and preparation. The work is multidisciplinary in the fields of microbiology (including bacteriology and virology), molecular biology, bioaerosol and aerosol research, biochemistry, and chemistry. Director duties will include management of the laboratory team (currently two scientists); hands-on research and development and laboratory work; project management; preparation of proposals, reports, papers, and presentations; and collaboration with and support of environmental health & safety, engineering, business development, sales, and marketing teams. This is a full-time position in Drexel, Missouri. Current project leadership duties will include leadership and hands-on research and development as part of ongoing National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, and other government, private, and internally funded programs for the development of systems associated with homeland security and biodefense, biosurveillance and outbreak investigation, aquaculture pathogen monitoring, beer spoilage detection, food safety detection, environmental, and other areas of application. Laboratory duties will include use of PCR, culture-based, and other appropriate techniques during the course of research and making improvements to and optimizing InnovaPrep’s sample preparation and concentration technologies. The ideal candidate will help InnovaPrep achieve success by maintaining and growing an efficient and well-functioning laboratory team, writing winning proposals for and leading successful research and development projects, and supporting the engineering, sales and marketing teams. Important success metrics include laboratory team retention, proposal win rate, project aims success rate, number of conference presentations and publications, number of patent applications, and number of contacts related to sales, marketing, and customer service support. The candidate will serve as research scientist and Director of Laboratory Operations. Job specific
responsibilities are outlined below:

Summary of essential job functions
• Perform day-to-day management of the laboratory team.
• Supervise Scientific and Engineering staff in the Laboratory, including preparing project work
• Prepare or Approve lab SOPs and supervise safety procedures and programs for Lab with Human
Resources and Management.
• Provide top-quality testing and evaluation services for InnovaPrep and External clients.
• Manage and organize laboratory and specify equipment and instrumentation requirements.
• Train other scientists and engineers and technicians in use of lab equipment and processes.
• Assist InnovaPrep teams on special projects as needed.

Minimum Requirement
• Advanced Scientific or Engineering degree preferred.
• Excellent written / verbal communication skills.
• Skilled in use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Skilled in use of e-mail, including sending attachments.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Effective organizational skills in dealing with suppliers and other engineers.
• Able to successfully keep multiple tasks running simultaneously.
• Work well with people, both internally and externally, and at all levels of the organization.
• Able to prioritize and consistently meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate effectively via the phone, email, etc. with virtual teams.
• Self-starter with a willingness to learn new things.
• Able to provide constructive feedback and creative solutions to problems.
• Valid United States driver’s license.
• Physically able to unpack, pack, lift, and transport boxed items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Eligible for security clearance.

Job Requirements
Degree and experience in microbiology, bacteriology, molecular biology, or other appropriate study
area with minimum requirements as defined below:
• Ph.D. in the biological sciences
• Master’s degree with minimum of 3 years’ experience in a microbiology laboratory
• Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 5 years’ experience in a microbiology laboratory
