The Deli Associate is responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served, complying with all applicable sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. * Must have flexibility to work Weekends DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : *Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of customer service. *Help educate customers about our products and our store philosophy. *Ensure successful completion of all opening/closing duties. *Ensure that all food is cooked with the highest quality and freshness. *Offer samples, suggestions and ways to prepare products. *Work with Deli Manager on weekly/monthly meal planning for hot case, cold case, grab & go case and seasonal changes. *Maintain cleanliness of work area; wash & sanitize dishes and equipment routinely. *Attend mandatory monthly store and departmental meetings. *Ensure that the "Grab N Go" case is full with items (i.e., sandwiches, pizza, soups, etc.) and check for expired items. *Follow food preparation/food handling sanitation procedures in compliance with *Health Department regulations. *Prepare fresh smoothies, coffee drinks and teas. *Call for back-up as needed to minimize wait time for customers. *Wash all dishes as needed; keep floors clean of all debris; take out trash as often as needed. *Other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY : This position will not have any supervisory duties. QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, a team member must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The incumbent must be able to use the following machinery: espresso machines, drink blenders, slicers, coffee grinders, coffee brewing machinery, tea brewers and chef knives. WORK ENVIRONMENT : This job operates in a commercial kitchen environment with merchandise displays and items available for purchase in inventory. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The team member must occasionally lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The incumbent must have excellent knife skills and the skills to work with commercial stoves and ovens. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK : This position is full time and will require working weekends and holiday hours. TRAVEL : Local travel may be required. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE : A high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of deli experience in a commercial kitchen or certification from an accredited school or training program highly desired. Knowledge or natural and organic foods preferred. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of preparing palatable foods that are appetizing in appearance or be willing to learn. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of methods and procedures of serving food, principles of sanitation, and principles of safe food handling or be willing to learn. Food Handler's Card and/or ServSafe card is required. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance. COMPUTER SKILLS : To perform this job successfully, a team member should have a working knowledge of Microsoft office and internet usage. POS knowledge highly desirable.
