Job Description
Purpose: The Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Teacher provides a broad range of teaching services or specific learning programs, assisting students in developing skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to become future leaders and lifelong learners. The FACS Teacher will provide instruction in the areas of personal and family finance, food science, culinary arts, nutrition and wellness, textiles and apparel, and family relations.
Reports To: Building Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt, salaried
Salary: Negotiated Agreement Salary Schedule, 187-day contact
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Kansas Teaching License with Home Economics, Vocational Home Economics, or Family and Consumer Science 5th-8th or 6th-12th Grade Endorsement(s)
- The desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 plus years of teaching experience
- Master’s degree in the field of education
Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily
- Plans, preparation, and outline of a plan of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students will still be aligned to all state and district standards.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students, always treating students with dignity and respect.
- Employs a variety of instructional strategies and techniques to meet the learning needs of all students.
- Incorporates instructional technology in a meaningful way into lessons regularly to increase student engagement and growth.
- Assign lessons and other assignments as needed.
- Administers various tests and assessments to evaluate students’ progress, records results, and issues reports to students, guardians, and administration.
- Takes all suitable and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Keep attendance records.
- Maintaining a positive learning environment for all students will positively manage student discipline.
- Meets with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and problems.
- Prepare, attend, and participate in faculty meetings, professional developments, parent-teacher conferences, and other professional meetings.
- Develops and maintains effective and appropriate interpersonal relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Regular and consistent attendance at work.
- Performs other duties as assigned by administration.

- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to enter data into a computer, see and read a computer screen, and printed material with or without vision aids
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone
- Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
- Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead
- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures
- Ability to work both in an indoor and outdoor environment
Terms of Employment: At-will employment. 187-day Contract as part of the teacher collective bargaining unit.
Evaluation: Performance evaluations in accordance with the Board’s policy and the Negotiated Agreement.

Salary Range: $47,000 - $85,000. / Per Year.
