Senior Fleet Maintenance Technician

Full-time position available with the Aviation Department,

Fleet Maintenance Division, 125 Paris St., KCI Airport.

Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Mandatory overtime during inclement weather events. 

Performs a wide variety of maintenance and repair duties in the area of fleet maintenance.  Repairs and maintains automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, medium duty shuttle buses, heavy duty runway snow removal equipment, specialized airport vehicles, and other mechanical or construction equipment. Conducts annual vehicle state inspections to certify the road worthiness of departmental equipment. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance, which includes replacing fluids, filters, lubes chassis, completes inspections and adjustments of vehicles, tires, chassis parts, brakes and lights. Changes and repairs tires and tubes, services batteries and brakes. Installs exhaust systems, engine components and spark plugs. Performs overhaul and repair work in different types of gas, diesel, and CNG engines. Repairs alternators, generators, carburetors, clutches and ignition systems. Replaces springs, axles, differentials, air condition systems and hydraulic systems. Performs electrical work and trouble-shooting of all equipment. Cleans work areas, keeping them free from grease, oil and debris.

REQUIRES  3 years of experience as an automotive technician, including 1 year in the repair and maintenance of heavy duty automotive and construction equipment; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience, which may include the successful completion of an automotive repair trade school or the successful completion of a vocational technical program in automotive maintenance or completion of the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as a master automotive/truck technician. Must possess a valid state–issued driver’s license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies. Must possess a valid Missouri Class A, B or C CDL prior to the end of the employee’s probationary period as determined by the department. Must possess a valid State of Missouri Inspector Mechanic Permit prior to the end of the employee’s probationary period. Must successfully complete a 10-year FAA background check. If moving from a non-safety sensitive position, must pass a preemployment drug screen and post offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

Salary Range: $23.98 – 36.60/hour.
