Several full-time positions available with KCMO’s Parks & Recreation Department,
Tony Aguirre Community Center, 2050 W. Pennway; Garrison Community Center, 1121 E. 5 th St.; and Lakeside Nature Center, 4701 E. Gregory Blvd.
Tony Aguirre & Garrison:
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.
Manages the day-to-day facility operations, all facility staff and programming that takes place at their designated community center. Maintains department standards on cost recovery, customer satisfaction/goals, staff to program ratios, and participation goals. Maintains all community center financials, staff time approvals, facility maintenance repair requests, and any other tasks that pertain to the community center operations.
Provides direct reports with timely feedback on job performance in efforts to optimize performance. Provides timely, documented, formal and informal feedback such as coaching and counseling. Provides disciplinary actions when needed and hire staff according to the city policy and procedures as well as training and
developing staff. Creates partnerships that benefit their designated community center as well as working with marketing to market all programming that takes place at their designated community center.
Lakeside Nature Center:
Normal Work Days/Hours: Tuesday-Saturday; 7:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Manages the Lakeside Nature Center and Camp Lake of the Woods facilities. Plans, organizes, develops and coordinates assigned cultural events, natural science, and outdoor recreation programs designed to meet the needs and gain public acceptance of various interested community groups and organizations within the City and
metropolitan area. Supervises and participates in the conducting of training programs for leaders, directors, and volunteer naturalists; and discusses methods, materials, equipment, public recreation, philosophy, and standard operating procedures. The program includes a live animal collection, including venomous snakes, environmental science programs, and care of injured wildlife. Plans, develops and coordinates natural science education programming, and manages a live animal collection which includes birds of prey, mammals, reptiles, including venomous snakes, and invertebrates native to Missouri. Animals are used in education programs.
Manages the activities, budget, and staff. Develops interpretive programming for natural areas located in other Parks Department managed properties and for the management planning of these areas. Assists with green solutions initiatives, including native planting at other park areas, and seeking additional funding through grants and other means.
REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, public administration or other
area of specialization and 2 years professional experience of a progressively responsible nature in organized recreation activities, including 1 year at the level of the City's Senior Recreation Director; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must pass a preemployment drug screen as prescribed by
the City.
Salary Range: $3,957-$6,769/month.
