Two full-time positions available with KCMO’s Water Department, Remittance and Finance Division,

4800 East 63rd Street.

Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Remittance Manager: Plans, directs, and manages the remittance and customer payment processes for the Department. Performs tasks associated with the receipt of revenue from water bills, overseeing services provided by banking institutions, other payment processing, and directing the cashiering activities of the KC Water Services Department. Provides wide latitude for using professional administrative judgment and initiative in carrying out the goals and priorities associated with the planning, installing, revising, and maintaining of accounting procedures and preparation of monthly/annual financial statements and reports of the KC Water Services Department. Work is reviewed through periodic meetings with management and through evaluation of the adequacy with which desired results are obtained. In addition, work is subject to verification by external audits and a variety of internal controls.

Accounting Manager: Plans, directs, and coordinates of finance and accounting, managing operations, and administration and review of department programs. Directs staff, complex assignments requiring skills in financial management, accounting, quantitative and qualitative research, budget development and administration, and ensuring the compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Performs statements, interpretations, technical bulletins, and concept statements issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Plans procedures, gathering, organizing and analyzing data and reporting results. Provides training and technical assistance to staff and carrying out the assignments. Plans, established, monitors, and enforces financial and accounting policies and procedures for divisions under the Department Director and ensuring that appropriate internal controls are in place. Acts as primary Department contact with external auditor. Carries out their assignments under general supervision.  Instructs subordinates in revised procedures or in new developments in the application of changing legal interpretations regarding the work performed. Reviews through periodic conferences and through evaluation of the adequacy with which desired results are obtained.

REQUIRES an accredited Master's degree in public or business administration, urban or regional planning, economics, accounting, finance or a related field and 3 (OR an accredited Bachelor's degree in the listed fields and 5) years of progressively responsible, professional experience in public or business administration, corporate or municipal finance, budget, research, accounting or a related field, including 2 years of experience at the Analyst level. For Remittance Manager: Preference given to applicants with 4 experience in cash management, banking operations or banking, including 3 years experience in a management capacity. For Accounting Manager: Preference given to applicants with 5 years or more of accounting experience and/or AFR (Annual Financial Report) experience.

Salary Range: $4,945-$8,833/month.
