Full-time position available with the Water Department, Smart Sewer Division, 4800 E. 63rd St.
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.*Telework may be approved after completion of 6 month probationary period.
Coordinates and implements engineering business processes. Plans and assigns specific projects or areas of work to professional and technical subordinates. Assists with resource needs and assignment of engineers within engineering division to meet project demands and provide diversity of assignments and project experience. Manages the technical aspects of the engineering Smart Sewer unit. Reviews and approves RFQ/P scopes of work, engineering fee submittals, completed plans, specifications, drawings and estimates. Reviews vouchers and supports field data for partial payments for work completed. Approves payment per contractual requirements. Prepares specifications for materials and products. Performs necessary research for satisfactory substitutes. Investigates material(s) failure(s) and inspects construction work in progress for compliance with plans and specifications. Approves and authorizes changes as necessary and interprets plans and specifications for inspectors and contractors. Defines business and financial process by: controlling expenditures within limitations of project budget. Adheres to and assists with preparation of annual budget. Oversees the development and maintenance of a schedule for Smart Sewer CIP projects. Defines the communication plan for Smart Sewer Engineering projects by: preparing interim and completion project status reports. Interfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met. Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management. Directly supervises 7-10 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
REQUIRES 4 years of progressively responsible experience as a Registered Engineer. Within 6 months of hire date, must be registered as a Professional Engineer with MO Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen as prescribed by the City. Preference given to applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering and 4 years of project management experience in wastewater and combined sewer systems.
Salary Range: $7,268-$10,902/month.
