Full-time position available with KCMO’s Finance Department, Revenue Division,

Plan, organize, and conduct office and field audits of the tax returns, reports, and records of business organizations to determine tax liability in accordance with city tax laws. Work on potential audit leads
from IRS data match and propose recommendations to the taxpayers to resolve tax issues. Contact taxpayers to obtain and document tax records, related financial documents and statements to determine the sufficiency, relevance and appropriateness of the supporting documents and resolve the tax issue promptly. Examine accounting records and documents to verify accuracy of computations and to ascertain that transactions and computations are properly supported, are in accordance with pertinent policies and procedures, and are classified and treated according to established reporting requirements. Prepare working papers, schedules, exhibits, and summaries indicating the extent of examination in presenting and supporting the findings and
recommendations that are subject to review for accuracy, adequacy and conformance. Prepare complex financial analysis and conduct legal, accounting and auditing research on complex tax issues. Answer
inquiries pertaining to accounting and auditing laws, rules, policies, and procedures and advise the individual and business organization of results of audits and recommendations for ensuring conformity to local tax laws. Assist in the preparation of written reports of findings and recommendations regarding audit process. Assist with the preparation of presentations, analyses, policy manuals and other projects. Prepare financial statements, forecasts of cash flow spreadsheets, schedules and fact sheets, accounting documents, financial
formulas and calculations, project descriptions, spreadsheets and presentation graphics. Review project proposals, establish work plans and determine time frames, procedures for accomplishing project during various phases of project management. Design, document and manage dashboards such as Key Performance
Indicator (KPI) by using Tableau or Power BI. Perform data mining and analysis by using Structured Query Language (SQL), R, and Python and present the result to management. Analyze data for patterns and
trends to provide statistical assistance to the department for decision-making. Build, maintain and manage tax and financial database from confidential information using SQL. Assist in data warehouse for data gathering and data processing and evaluate data management process for efficiency and improvement.
REQUIRES an accredited Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public / Business Administration, Urban / Regional Planning, Economics, or related. In the alternative, the employer will accept an accredited
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public / Business Administration, Urban / Regional Planning, Economics, or related, plus 1 year of related experience.
Preferred required skills: public or business administration, corporate or municipal finance, budget, research, accounting or a related field.
Preferred required skills: Conducting tax examination and collection using internal tax records, public records, and tax data shared by Internal Revenue Service(IRS); Working with the theories, principles, and
practices of municipal organizations, business, and management; Missouri statutes, Kansas City, MO Code of
Ordinances, charter provision, and ordinance requirements governing the administration of municipal government and related administrative processes; Principles and practices of planning, interviewing, data collection and analysis, research, and program evaluation; Organizing, preparing, reviewing, and presenting effective oral and written recommendations and reports; Working in a team environment, building coalitions, and alliances from cross representational members to form consensus and produce results; Developing significant findings and making recommendations for improvements to municipal operations..
Salary Range: $3,957/month ($47,484.12/year).
