The City of Gibraltar (Mich.) (www.cityofgibraltar.net) is seeking qualified applicants for the part-time position of Code Enforcement Officer.
Minimum qualifications for the position include a high school diploma, supplementation of specialized training and/or college level coursework in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or other related field is preferred. One year of work experience involving a high level of public contact including some experience dealing with the public in an enforcement, inspection, investigation, or customer service capacity is preferred. Experience that includes the enforcement of municipal codes is highly desirable. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook is required as well as a strong ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Successful candidates will be required to have a valid driver’s license and pass a mandatory drug screen and physical.
The responsibilities of the position include:
• Under supervision of the Public Safety Director, the Code Enforcement Officer performs a variety of technical duties in support of the City’s local code enforcement program;
• Monitors and enforces a variety of applicable ordinances, codes, and regulations related to zoning, land use, nuisance housing, building codes, health and safety, blight, graffiti, water waste, and other matters of public concern;
• Serves as a resource and provides information on City regulations to property owners, residents, businesses, the general public, and other City departments and divisions.
Position is part-time (16 hours/week).
Starting wage is $11.50 hour without benefits. Employment costs are funded via a grant from United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Grant funding is only guaranteed for one year thus employee will be considered at-will.
