Responsibilities
The Vice President for Finance and Administration, serving as the Chief Financial Officer
(CFO), reports directly to the President and leads all aspects of the financial life of the
University. The Vice President of Administration and Finance is responsible for the
management, direction, control and coordination for administrative and financial activities
of the University.
The Vice President for Finance and Administration provides executive level direction and
management oversight for the following functions: financial planning and analysis,
budgeting, accounting and business operations, financial reporting, internal controls and
compliance, investment oversight and treasury functions, debt management, human
resources, risk management and insurance, space planning and construction, facilities and
grounds operations, purchasing and contracts, mail services, bookstore operations, food
service and other auxiliary enterprises. Other functions may fall under the purview of this
role depending upon the strengths and knowledge of the selected candidate.
This position also serves as the liaison to the Board of Trustees for all aspects of finance and
facilities including performing as the staff lead for the Finance Committee, Investments Sub-
Committee, Audit Committee, and the Facilities and Planning Committee.
Along with other members of the President's cabinet, the Vice President is responsible for
leading Avila’s mission, vision and values, as well as embracing the ministry of the Sisters of
St. Joseph of Carondelet who founded Avila more than 100 years ago to promote the unity
of neighbor with God and neighbor serving neighbor without distinction.
Qualifications
Candidates that possess a master’s degree in a field appropriate to the responsibilities of
the position and those that have achieved a Certified Public Accountant credential or
possess another similar credential are preferred. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree
combined with extensive applicable administration experience will also be considered. The
candidate must also have at least five years of experience in senior higher education
administration or similar finance administrative experience in business or non-profit
management, including significant proven experience in supervision and upper-level
management that demonstrates the ability to:
Sustain good interpersonal relationships with professional colleagues, the
University community, and a diverse set of stakeholders.
Interpret the mission, educational role, and agenda of the University to diverse
audiences.
Assume leadership in promoting good public relations with University’s Board of
Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
