Title: Sr. Telecom Engineer
Location: Tampa, FL 33602
Duration: 6 months contract
POSITION CONCEPT:
Responsible for project engineering, planning, coordination, and budgeting as it applies to telecommunications transmission/radio systems. This position requires competence in the area of telecommunications systems engineering and judgment in the selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques for engineering and installation of telecommunications systems and sub-systems.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Indirect: Telecom Operations (TE’s), Telecom Engineering and contractors performing Telecom Broadband related functions.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Key internal: Directly responsible to Manager, Telecommunications Engineering-& Metro-Link for carrying out all of the functions previously listed. Daily contact with Telecommunications personnel pertaining to telecommunications projects. Frequent contact with users of telecommunications services to determine needs, requirements for service and training. Must be able to establish and maintain good working relationship with all levels of company personnel.
Key external: Frequent contact with telecommunications vendors and outside contractors concerning products and their applications. Occasional contact with Metro-Link Customers concerning licensing available infrastructure (i.e., dark fiber or tower space).
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be a graduate of a ABET accredited engineering college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. Minimum of eight years’ experience in telecommunications engineering design and network planning.
· Experience in T1 networking, broadband transport equipment (SONET and IP Networks), DC battery systems, and microwave radio systems also required. Must have knowledge and understanding of advanced networking systems to include integrations with substations, power plants and IT resources into a common communications network. Knowledge of telecommunications network planning to include the installation and testing of fiber optic systems and microwave radio systems.
Preferred:
· Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Experience in working on the following systems preferred: Cisco transport equipment, Harris and Alcatel Microwave Radio Systems. Utility telecommunications, NERC experience related to utility industry, and outside plant construction experience also preferred.
Licenses / Certifications:
Preferred:
· Successfully complete the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) Exam. Carrier Ethernet Services (i.e., MEF-CECP).
Experience (Direct Experience):
Required:
· Minimum of 8 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required.
Preferred:
· More than 10 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (KSA):
Required:
Must have strong project management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple engineering projects, while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Strong organizational skills required for the efficient and timely documentation and maintenance of projects. Must demonstrate leadership qualities and possess good judgment with the ability to analyze and resolve problems logically as they pertain to the Telecommunications transmission network. Knowledge of engineering procedures and of the specific procedures related to an engineering specialty.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required; and “on call” as needed for 24/7/365 system outages and emergency preparedness. Requires travel locally.
